In fact that is how the marine surveyor will do it. He will ask you what you think it is worth, what you paid for it, and compare that value to what other boats of that type and condition are selling for. You can do the same thing yourself. If you wish to get a a second opinion of the boat's condition a professional marine surveyor is well worth the money. I don't work, so I don't have any reason to take the public transportation which is available here. They recently did away with all the bus stops, so I am wondering about the people who take our light rail train into the city. And no, the cost of gas has not changed my usual mode. I don't drive very much. I usually have at least one appointment someplace every week (usually doctor's appointments). I schedule everything on the same day, and if I have errands to run, I do them while I am out anyway. I am already aware that I am leaving a huge carbon footprint with my truck, so I try to minimize it, if possible. They recently put in a bike path to the shopping center which is about one mile away. I think next summer I will buy a three-wheeled bike (lots of room for groceries), and use that when I need to go to the store. I would walk, but my mother loves ice cream, and it gets quite yucky in the time it takes me to walk home! And by the way, my absolute least favorite mode of transportation is flying. Ask me about how excited I am to be taking a really long trip this fall. We are going to Egypt, and while I am plenty excited about the trip, I am really dreading the flight. I have logged close to 1M miles in my lifetime, most of it when I was young. I have to take Valium now to fly, because I keep thinking that somewhere around 1M miles, your number should be up ;( **EDIT** Our light rail system is quite good. I have used the El for it's airconditoning on hot days--until it delivered me to the Mall. And for killing time when a roomate was entertaining.
